There's a New Pub in Town
"That's a horrible idea. What time?" - Matty McMillen
This is the quote that greeted us as we took our seats for a soft opening meal at Matty McMillen's Irish Pub. It sets the tone for a pub with an extensive drink menu and creative takes on classic Irish dishes. Anna wasn't able to make it to this soft opening, so in her place I brought her husband, and former guest, Patrick, as well as our friends Toan and Paul to see what Matty's had to offer.
Opening August 13th, Matty's is the newest concept from Hal Smith Restaurants, taking over the space formally occupied by Hollie's Flatiron Grill. Hollie's only lasted a short time in North OKC, however if you were a fan you can still visit them in Moore.
Located technically in Edmond on the corner of North Pennsylvania and 150th, Matty's is a part of the Shops at North Penn. It's in good company with Teds and Neighborhood JAM!
We kicked things off with a round of fancy drinks and a "sharable."
For the main courses, we went for a good variety when choosing our four entrees. A little authentic Irish, a little classic, and we were impressed with all of the above.
We're fans! The Sheppards Pie was the over all favorite, with Fish + Chips coming in a close second. I hated the "chips." But as an admitted fry snob, I acknowledge it's because I only like thinner crispier fries. I probably wouldn't like "chips" from any where. The Irish dishes definitely took the cake, so we're excited to try more off the menu. Speaking of cake...not pictured was the dessert. A category also missing from the menu, desserts will be rotating specials and you'll have to ask your server what their feature is for the night. During this visit we were treated to the Lemon Poundcake, topped with a homemade lemon curd. It was delicious with a somehow perfectly crunchy crust!
